Browser Extension Privacy Policy

The Comp Desk browser extension ("the extension") is published by NJJ Document Services, Inc. This page explains what data the extension collects, why, and how long we keep it. If anything here is unclear, email support@thecompdesk.com.

What we collect

• Highlighted text you choose to send. Only text you explicitly select and submit (via the right-click menu or the side panel composer) is transmitted to our servers. The extension does not read, scrape, or monitor pages you do not act on.
• Chat content and tool inputs/outputs. Your messages, the calculator inputs the model extracts from them, and the calculator results are sent to our server-side function so Claude can respond.
• Authentication token. If you sign in, a Supabase session token is stored in the extension's local storage (chrome.storage.local) so you stay signed in. Anonymous use is supported — no sign-in required for free calculators.
• IP address (transient). Used by our edge function for rate limiting on anonymous use only. Bucketed by 24-hour windows; not persisted beyond that.

What we do not collect

• The contents of any page you visit, beyond text you explicitly highlight and send.
• Browsing history.
• Form data, passwords, or cookies from third-party sites.
• Any data from pages where you do not invoke the extension.

How we use it

• To run NYS Workers' Compensation calculations and return them to you.
• To track per-session inference cost so we can stay within budget.
• To enforce tier-based access (Free vs. Pro vs. Firm) and rate limits.

How long we keep it

Chat sessions are stored in our advisor_sessions table for up to 90 days for cost reconciliation and quality review, then purged. You may request earlier deletion at any time by emailing support@thecompdesk.com.

Third parties

• Anthropic — model inference (Claude Haiku 4.5).
• Supabase — authentication and database hosting.
• Cloudflare — request transit (used by Supabase edge functions).
• No advertising, marketing, or analytics third parties.

Permissions, explained

• activeTab — read the text you've selected when you click the context menu. Scoped to the active tab only, only when you invoke the extension.
• contextMenus — register the "Calculate with The Comp Desk" right-click entry.
• sidePanel — open the calculator side panel.
• storage — store your session token and chat history locally.
• identity — handle Google OAuth sign-in via Chrome's built-in flow.

The extension does not request broad host permissions (no <all_urls> in host_permissions). It cannot read any page until you explicitly highlight text and invoke it.

Your rights

You can sign out and clear extension storage at any time via Chrome's extension settings. To request deletion of stored chat history, email support@thecompdesk.com.
