1. Overview & Scope

1.1 Who operates The Comp Desk

The Services are operated by NJJ Document Services, Inc., a company doing business as The Comp Desk. We are responsible for the personal information processed through the Services as described in this policy.

1.2 What this policy covers

This policy covers the thecompdesk.com website, our mobile app and browser extension, our workers' compensation calculators, our contact and attorney-referral forms, our reminder features, and registered attorney accounts. It does not cover the practices of independent attorneys to whom you may be referred, who maintain their own privacy practices and become responsible for your information once it is shared with them.

1.3 Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to injured workers who use our tools or request a referral, participating attorneys who hold accounts with us, and general visitors to our site.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information from injured workers

Our calculators run entirely in your browser; the wages, dates, and other figures you enter are processed on your device and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers. Separately, if you submit a contact form, request an attorney referral, create an account, or opt in to IME or hearing reminders, we collect the information you choose to provide. Depending on what you do, this may include your name, email address, phone number, and details about your potential workers' compensation matter, so that we can respond to you, route your request to a participating attorney, or send the reminders you requested.

2.2 Information from participating attorneys

If you register as a participating attorney, we collect your account email, name, firm, professional and verification details, and your subscription and payment status.

2.3 Automatically collected information

When you visit the Services we automatically collect limited technical information such as browser type, operating system, device and screen characteristics, language preference, and the referring URL. This information is collected through privacy-respecting analytics that strip personal identifiers and anonymize IP addresses before data is recorded.

2.4 Information from third parties

We obtain public professional-directory information (for example, from the National Provider Identifier registry) to build and maintain our directory of workers' compensation providers. We also receive confirmation of payment and subscription status from our payment processors; we do not collect or store your full payment-card details.

3. How We Use Information

3.1 Delivering the referral and lead-distribution service

We use the information you submit through a referral or contact form to evaluate your request and route it to one or more participating attorneys who may be able to assist with your potential claim.

3.2 Operating calculators and attorney accounts

We use account information to authenticate registered attorneys, save their work, and administer subscriptions.

3.3 SMS and Phone Communications

If you provide a phone number to The Comp Desk — by submitting our contact form, signing up for an account, requesting an attorney referral, opting in to IME reminders, or contacting our support number — you consent to receive transactional and customer-care SMS messages from us at that number. Message frequency varies based on your activity. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message; you can request help by replying HELP. We do not sell, share, or transfer your phone number or SMS opt-in data to third parties for marketing purposes. SMS opt-in consent is not a condition of using The Comp Desk's services or receiving an attorney referral.

3.4 Product improvement and analytics

We use aggregate, de-identified usage data to understand how the Services are used and to improve them.

3.5 Legal and compliance purposes

We use information as needed to comply with applicable law, enforce our terms, prevent fraud or abuse, and protect the rights and safety of our users and the public.

4. How We Share Information

4.1 Sharing with participating attorneys

When you request a referral, we share the contact and matter information you submit with the participating attorney or attorneys we route you to, so they can evaluate and contact you about your potential claim. Those attorneys then handle your information under their own privacy practices.

4.2 Service providers

We rely on trusted service providers who process information only to provide services to us, including website hosting (Vercel), authentication and database services (Supabase), email delivery (Resend), telephone and SMS messaging (OpenPhone), payment processing (Stripe, and Apple or Google for in-app purchases), and privacy-respecting analytics. These providers are bound by their own privacy and security obligations.

4.3 Legal requirements and protective disclosures

We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

4.4 Business transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

4.5 What we do not share or sell

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party ad networks, and we do not share your information with advertisers. In particular, we do not sell, share, or transfer your phone number or SMS opt-in data to third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Your Rights & Choices

5.1 Access and correction

You may request access to or correction of the personal information we hold about you by emailing privacy@thecompdesk.com. We will respond within 30 days.

5.2 Account deletion

If you have an account, you may request deletion at any time using the account-deletion feature or by emailing privacy@thecompdesk.com.

5.3 Communications preferences and opt-out

You can opt out of SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any message, and you can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in those emails. Opting out of transactional messages may affect features you have requested, such as reminders.

5.4 State-specific rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable state privacy law. Residents of New York and California, among others, may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of their personal information. To exercise these rights, contact privacy@thecompdesk.com.

6. Data Security & Retention

6.1 Security measures

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6.2 Data retention periods

We retain aggregate analytics data for up to 24 months. Account data is retained while your account is active. Information you submit through a referral or contact form is retained as long as needed to provide the service you requested and as required by law, after which it is deleted or de-identified.

6.3 Breach notification

If a data breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify affected users and applicable authorities as required by law.

7. Cookies & Tracking

7.1 Cookies we use

We use a small number of first-party cookies and local-storage items necessary to operate the Services and remember your preferences, such as recording when you have dismissed our analytics notice. These do not contain personal information.

7.2 Analytics

We use privacy-respecting analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) configured to strip personal identifiers and anonymize IP addresses. We do not use session recording, heatmaps, or advertising trackers.

7.3 Do Not Track signals

We honor browser "Do Not Track" signals where technically feasible.

8. Children's Privacy

The Services are intended for adults and are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact privacy@thecompdesk.com and we will promptly delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted to this page with an updated "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users by email. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
